6.30pm: Taking Offence: Religion and Offence

07/10/2009

In the first of three debates, Kamila Shamsie, Salil Tripathi and Irena Maryniak discuss religion and offence. From The Satanic Verses to Jerry Springer the Opera, religion has been the catalyst for some of the greatest challenges to free speech and multiculturalism over the past 20 years. In a wide-ranging discussion, three leading writers assess the culture of offence.

Seagull Books, in association with Index on Censorship, celebrate the latest publications of their specially commissioned series of books on offence with lively debates on three consecutive evenings.
