Reading in Connecticut

My good friends Vinay and Shonu Pande generously hosted an evening discussion about Offence: The Hindu Case at their home in Connecticut on Friday, Feb 19. Alan Murray, deputy managing editor of the Wall Street Journal, moderated the lively and spirited discussion, which included conversations about tolerance, the Partition of India and Pakistan, the limits of free speech, and the state of Indian art. Nina Paley, who made the wonderful film, Sita Sings the Blues, was also there; she talked of the chilling effects fundamentalists have on artists. There were more than 70 guests – I thank everyone who came, for their interest, support, and concern. Preston Merchant has taken photographs – watch this space!
